Why Kemerton

Transport at Kemerton

Road Connections

Kemerton Industrial Park is linked by safe and modern road and rail networks.

The park is well serviced by two major highways – the Old Coast Road to the west and South Western Highway to the east.

These roads link Bunbury and Kemerton with the State capital city, Perth. Currently Bunbury is around two hours drive from Perth.

Work is underway to enhance the road system between Perth and Bunbury with construction of a rapid transport link (the Peel Deviation) which bypasses urban areas. This will cut 30 minutes travelling time by 2009.

Perth city is linked to other Australian cities by major highways and direct air and sea routes.

Rail Freight

The South West Regional rail depot is centred at Picton near Bunbury and its narrow gauge rail network radiates from there in five directions.

The line which passes closest to Kemerton connects Picton Junction marshalling yard with Perth and Collie via Brunswick Junction.

Currently materials are trucked between Kemerton and the Picton Junction marshalling yards to the railway.

Future plans to create a rail spur to extend rail services into the park are currently being considered by government.

The Australian Rail Group (ARG) carries bulk commodities from the region to the Port of Bunbury. This group leases the rail network from the Western Australian Government and supplies rail freight services.

WestNet Rail is responsible for maintaining track infrastructure, supply of train control functions and determining track access fees.

Passenger Rail

A passenger rail service between Bunbury and Perth is operated by Westrail twice a day, seven days a week. The affordable fares make it an attractive alternative to road.

Air

The South West Region is serviced by a regional airport at Busselton and a smaller airfield at Bunbury.

Major airlines fly into and out of Perth to all Australian capitals, and most major centres worldwide.
