LandCorp, in association with the Department of
State Development held Information Sessions on the 10 November 2009
at the Leshenault Leisure Centre to take the local community
through the Kemerton Industrial Park Final Strategy
Plan.
The plan draws together the findings of previous
environmental and infrastructure studies and forms the basis for
upcoming environmental investigations and planning
approvals.
Following extensive community consultation, the
final Strategy Plan incorporates changes that reflect the
community's concerns with regard to the development of the
Park.
Key changes include:
- Extension of a significant wetland east of the
core industry area in the external buffer
- No development within 100m of conservation
category wetlands
- More efficient rail layout
- Removal of provision for livestock sale-yards or
an animal products processing precinct
Key recommendations
include:
- The preparation of a Local Water Management
Strategy, integrating modern sustainable drainage principles with
waste water disposal solutions
- Environmental monitoring and buffer management
by the KIP Coordinating Committee
- Vegetation, wetlands and rivers linked through
conservation corridors
- Highest impact industries located in the centre
of the core industry area
Now that the Strategy Plan has been finalised and
thanks to the Heavy Use Industrial Land Strategy (HUIL), money has
been allocated to commence further detailed environment and
heritage studies as well as air, noise and risk
modelling.
Amendments to the Shire of Harvey District
Planning Scheme and preparing a Structure Plan will also take
place. The structure plan is expected to be finalised by mid
2011.
As part of the process there will be
opportunities for the community to comment on the plan.
A copy of the Final Strategy Plan is available to
view at the Leshenault, Harvey and Bunbury libraries, otherwise
